Join disability advocate and educator Jordan LeVan for an immersive 6-hour workshop exploring Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) through the lens of lived experience as a person who grew up nonspeaking until age 8. Designed for SLPs, educators, parents, and caregivers, this session bridges the gap between clinical practice and real-world reality. Participants will move beyond traditional therapy models to explore critical topics including the intersection of anxiety and motor speech, neurodiversity-affirming documentation, self-advocacy, and the vital role of identity in speech therapy. Course Description: This foundational three-day course will cover the background and essential information on identifying and diagnosing childhood apraxia of speech (CAS), as well as the key points to effective treatment based on the latest research and decades of clinical experience. While this course is designed for clinicians with little to no experience with apraxia, it will include lots of in-depth information and SLPs of all experience levels are welcome. Numerous videos of children with CAS will be used to help participants gain and apply the knowledge from the course. Part of the I am King curriculum
